GIANDANTE X
(Milan, 1899-1984). Artist and architect, a unique figure who real name was Dante Pesc˛, he was active from the 1920s in Milan. Autonomously, and in opposition to the second Futurism, he developed a Constructivist-type language, utilized also in illustrations for the early issues of the Communist newspaper L’UnitÓ.

Even though he presented himself as an isolated, "refractory" figure, he was a constant presence on the Milanese artistic scene in the years betwen the two wars. In Spain during the Civil War, he played an active role in the production of graphic material for propaganda on behalf of the International Brigades. Back in Italy during the second world war, he continued his activity as a painter and sculptor without significant relationships with the contemporary art world.
